There’s a lot in press at the moment about the Pillow Face girls – celebrities who’ve overdosed on the dermal fillers. A friend of mine has had cheek fillers and there is no sign of ‘pillow face’ – in fact she looks lovely. Her cheek fillers have had the effect of banishing a slightly ‘drawn’ look that can happen… read the rest of “The Pillow Face Phenomena”

I came across this picture of the usually beautiful Penelope Cruz wearing a hairstyle with a fringe that looks like it’s been nibbled by mice. Someone sack the stylist!

As if watching my friend Lindsay slog around the London Marathon course in 4 hours and 15 minutes this weekend wasn’t enough to get me thinking about toning up, it’s also been warm enough to slip back into summer fitflops. But, one of our best sellers last summer on www.beautyexpert.co.uk was Murad’s Tone & Firm Anti-Cellulite Supplements. After a very… read the rest of “Gotta Shape Up”

According to reports, sales of hair dye – red and blonde in particular – have gone through the roof recently. It could be the Lady GaGa effect that’s brought extreme blonde into the spotlight, or even glamorous Scarlet Johannson’s recent switch to red that are to answer, but if you’ve joined in the colour-swapping extravaganza you’ll need to keep your… read the rest of “Blonde Moment”

Ok, so the sun really has only just shown it’s face, but don’t be fooled into thinking that just because it hasn’t been around for a while, it can’t possibly do any damage now. Well, the truth is that sun is responsible for most of our wrinkles, so upping your daily SPF is a must to keep them at… read the rest of “Protection Perfection”

If you’re anything like me, it’s a bit of a shock when those socks finally come off in favour of strappy sandals and Fitflops. Feet that have been ever so cosy all winter don’t bear close scrutiny in the harsh light of a sunny spring day. Hard skin, dry patches and a general air of neglect is what I found… read the rest of “Sock Shock!”

One of the best pieces of beauty I’ve ever received was from BeautyExpert.co.uk’s co-founder, Hilary Andrews. The night before my daughter’s first ever prom, she decided she needed to look browner. So, picking out my most reliable self tanner (naming no names but forever consigned to the bin!) I gave her the full works; exfoliation, moisturiser then a light coat… read the rest of “Tan Disaster? We’re all loving our newest make up range, Becca, formulated by a former make up artist, whose quest for the perfect complexion led her to make her own. The range has a huge celebrity following; Kate Winslet, Thandie Newton, Sienna Miller and Kylie, to name but a famous few. The genius of Becca is that everything is sheer so making… read the rest of “Becca The Brilliant”

Ok, so we won’t judge, but this crystal coated bikini set to launch in Selfridges next week will set you back a cool £2,000! And, there’s already apparantly a wait list. We’re just thinking maybe…just maybe…we’d rather have the holiday than the bikini….because both would be a bank-breaker… read the rest of “The £2000 Bikini: We're Not Kidding!”

Flamboyant antiques expert, David Dickinson, is forever denying that he uses fake tan. He puts his colouring down to his Armenian heritage and plenty of holidays. Now, while we couldn’t possibly comment on whether his mahogany hue is entirely natural or he really has had a little bottled help, we can confidently state that our selection of gorgeous self… read the rest of “Man With A Tan”

Bright yellow nails are splashed all over the fashion and beauty pages at the moment, but if you aren’t a supermodel or avant guard fashionista, could you and should you work the look? Well, we feel the answer is probably not if your nails are short and if yellow is a colour that is totally at odds with the rest… read the rest of “Can You? Should You?”

Easter bank holiday was a tale of two hair halves: if you live in the south-east, it was a dull, cloudy and damp aired experience – the perfect environment for very bad barnet days. Anywhere else in the country, the sun seemed to shine so the long weekend was split into those with frizz and those without! Needless to… read the rest of “Weather Proof Hair”

I’m a fragranced candle addict; I love almost all scented candles (other than foodie smells, such as vanilla) and my search for the perfect spring candle is complete! I found it far closer to home than I expected, too, here on www.beautyexpert.co.uk. Having sampled such exotic fragrances as The Moon, from a French company who used NASA soil samples from… read the rest of “Light of My Life”

As pictures of Coleen Nolan squeezed into wet-look leggings for her book launch yesterday hit the internet, it flagged up an urgent To-Do on my already full list! While there is no way I’d risk those hide-nothing leggings – even with the baggiest possible shirt on top – it has reminded me to start applying wonder workers to thighs… read the rest of “Do It Now!”

With David in Milan gathering a crowd of admirers, Victoria is reported to have been babysitting for Katie Holmes. Both of them are hot-foot from shooting the latest racy Armani underwear ads, where looking beautiful is utterly essential. It’s not particularly well known that Victoria, having the beauty world at her fingertips, comes back time and time again to Dermalogica… read the rest of “Victoria Beckham's Secret Weapon”

Suddenly, foundation is too heavy, shades of burgundy lipsticks look drab and oh-my-goodness, those strands of grey are so obvious! That’s because spring light is so much harsher than winter grey days and all those little grooming details that go un-noticed in half light suddenly seem glaringly obvious now. Spring really is the time to spruce up: top of the… read the rest of “Officially, It's Spring!”

Beauty journalist, Alice Hart Davis, has written a fantastic article in the Daily Mail today (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1163295/My-30-minute-scalpel-free-boob-jab-turned-year-long-nightmare.html) warning women to take care when considering injectable boob jobs. She trialled a new technique using Macrolane (a reputable synthetic substance often used for facial line filling) hailed as a ‘non-surgical’ breast enhancement. What followed for Alice was a catalogue of lumps, bumps… read the rest of “Cautionary Tales”

Elemis is bringing out a new mask and I’m lucky enough to have had a sample ahead of it going on sale. The Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Gel Mask is truly genius and I’d say the best mask I’ve ever used. I’m always a little bit confused about how eyebrows can be subject to such trends. One minute, bushy is back in the form of natural, unruly arches (we all loved that one!); the next thing you know, immaculate grooming is key. Whew! I can hardly keep up. What I do know though, is a brow pencil can be your best… read the rest of “The Question Of Brows: Korres Colour Eyebrow Pencil”

We’re so excited about working with Eve Lom. She’s the undisputed Queen of cleansing!
I mentioned in an earlier post how I’m now a convert of cleansing balms and the Eve Lom cleanser is one of the best. Eve believes in the old adage that less is more. I know what she means. As cleansers go it’s a simple… read the rest of “Eve Lom - Cleansing Queen”

There was a time when false lashes were thick, itchy strip things that were applied with stringy white glue. The glue would clump along the natural lash line and collect make up to end up looking like some kind of contagious eye disease. They were theatrical and frankly a bit camp. Roll on a few years to 2009 and they are on every girls wish list.

I can totally understand why some people love the feeling of a wash-off cleanser but I’ve never been a foam and water girl – just can’t stand the wet hair business, so never really been a fan. I much prefer a lotion or cream taken off with a cotton wool pad. Maybe slightly less environmentally friendly but at least you can see what you’ve taken off and no water running… read the rest of “Butter Wouldn't Melt”

Just back from divine hols in France. I just love exploring French perfumeries, pharmacies and the lovely little cosmetic boutiques they seem to have in every town. These along with Darphin and Anne Seminon are… read the rest of “French Leave”

We’ve recently chosen a new face for Beauty Expert. Mariana is Brazilian. She has the kind of beauty that’s so fresh and natural it should inspire us right through the dark winter months.
